But God forbid that I should glory,
save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ
by whom the world is crucified unto me,
And I unto the world
Christians today have all but lost the glorious rewards of the deeper life in Christ. Our message to the saints is the same as our message to the sinner – Get saved, it’s all by Grace. Reading Romans chapter 8 and Paul’s prayers for the Christians we see that death to self and entering into a special divine mentality is possible and this is where becoming like Christ is found and what we have lost. The crucified life, self denial and sacrifice have been replaced by a religion of mere prosperity, praise and conditionless salvation. It is a religion of splendid idiocy that misses completely the whole efficacy of the cross, moral excellence and perfection. Everything from water baptism to the fruit of the Spirit speak of this lost pursuit of the modern Christian. Galatians 2:20, Romans chapter 8 and Paul’s prayers in his pastoral epistles are only starters to rediscovering this lost efficacy of the cross. Ephesians 3:13 – 21. To die with Him is to live his victorious life.
